I/we are aware of combat being bad/broken. A few days ago there were some changes made to improve combat. We also aim at nerfing acceleration / G-tolerance of ships, that will aso make combat slightly better, as relative speed between ships becomes saner. Sadly, I don't have the skills to dig in tha...

Maybe something could be built into the existing sector cache that would calculate and store distances to nearby systems... Please keep in mind: I have no idea what I'm talking about, but to me, it looks the like docking collar might benefit to be slightly more aerodynamic?

Do you suggest we use the music as is, and exclude the last song? Or do you feel like making a special pioneer-version of the last song (or any other) where vocal part is removed?

Welcome to the forum!

1. check COMPILING.txt and make sure you've pre-built the 3D models, that will speed up start up time a lot

2. I can't answer windows specific questions, but I've heard that when building debug in MS Visual Studio it is very slow indeed.

I agree with that. I don't know anytihng about game music, but one thought I had was to use a music tracker library (I think milkytracker provides one), and then the music consists of blocks that all end in some way that allows easy transition to any other block, that way, when you get attacked, or ...
