Re: 3D Cockpits

Cool! I was just about to suggest that this would be a potential stopgap measure in lieu of cockpits -- to have the ship visible in views and the data files simply placing cameras along the hull of the ship. (I figure the pilot is wearing a sort of VR headset anyway...)

Re: Soundtrack Redesign

FWIW, I do use the Undocked category. In it, I have a file that has a spin-up of motors/fans sound (like your systems warming up) and then several seconds of silence. I didn't like that otherwise music would begin playing the instant I undocked. ...which is because for Docked, I have a spin-down sou...

Re: Courier

Sorry; I tend to disappear for long periods of time. I get fixated on different things for certain periods of time. To make the colors less bold, simply use a gray in the Alpha channel. The darker the pattern is in the Alpha, the less pure the color will be. For the cleanest patterns, do the pattern...

Re: Courier

I noticed that light blue around the texture. I could recapture that as a pattern. I'd need to re-do the specular map in that case as currently it only works with the one pattern made so far (I made it so the pattern is a little shinier than the rest of the ship, but obviously if there's another pat...

Re: Courier

I could copy over the missing "dirt" from the final and put it back into the dirt layer, if there are other paint designs you want to be able to make for it. I was just playing with it in the modelviewer and notice that the maneuvering thrusters aren't animating. Someone who knows how thos...

Re: Courier

Most of the cones, except the ones in the rear, do have a bit of shading toward the front. The rear ones I couldn't find the exact mapping so just made the whole area dark with "noise" to give it some texture. To extract the pattern I just used Magic Wand tool and some hand-grabbing of the...

Re: Courier

Downloaded the Skipjack and made some texture improvements -- specular lighting, darkening the tyres and inside of the thrust cones, and making the stripes a pattern so each Skipjack will have differently coloured stripes. http://www.keeper1st.com/pioneer/skipjacktexes.zip Try these files and see wh...

Re: Terrain Texturing

I could see a terrain multiplier option that would simply divide the value by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, etc. with a warning that that also increases memory usage. Here's a screenshot after launching from New Hope. Keep in mind I also use a realistic FOV setting as well (and a custom skybox that's at 4x higher...

Re: Terrain Texturing

Turns out I had to divide the value rather than multiply it. Added /5 to the value i.e. centroidDist = (campos - centroid).Length()/5; and wow, it looks stunning. So many geologic features I'd never seen before in the game because they'd always blur away into Low-Poly Land by the time I got enough a...

Re: Terrain Texturing

Not completely following the code (no real programming experience beyond tweaking values of things and adding some "if" and "else" etc., so terms like "quadtree" are alien to me). But if in the following if statement I were simply to add *2 to the value centroidDist = (...
