Re: Art inspiration album

This is old, but I just found it. It posits what Earth might look like a thousand years from now.

Re: Code inspiration and rendering resource

While we won't need 3D galaxy scenes in Pioneer, yet, (maybe by 3300?) this statement - most importantly, will eventually contain a code for modelling galaxies and performing likelihood analyses on observed data, yielding parameter statistics stands out. It's over my head, of course, but I can get t...

Re: Trading in Pioneer - not viable

@Tichy You're saying that it should require a large dedicated cargo ship to make a reasonable profit by trading. That makes sense, and that's a boring career path anyway. @joonicks I'm giving another plug for Scout Plus here. Walterar has added a lot of stuff to make the starting grind more enjoyabl...

Re: Hello, Im new, and I have ideas (big text)

The different manufacturers are described as producing ships of varying qualities already. This fits right in. As for how the player could tell the difference, there needs to be a screen in the UI to display % of wear and tear, etc. I don't see why a spaceport would sell ships at the shipyard at all...

Re: latitude/longitude display for search & rescue missions

The "deliver fuel to stranded ship" mission reminded me that there was a "Help! My ship is out of fuel!" message that the player could broadcast in FE2. If the player is in an inhabited system a cargo ship could be spawned, or selected from those in the system, fly to the player and sell fuel at hig...

Re: Various astronomy news

This picture of the Moon coalescing with its lava geysers reminds me so much of some of the rocky planets in Pioneer that I just had to post it here.

Re: New ship by BobtheTerrible

Ok, thanks. When I'm ready I'll play around with it. Also, thanks for the tutorial you wrote in the wiki. I don't want to hijack this thread any more than I have, so I'll start another if I have anything worth discussing. Go BobtheTerrible! Get it in the game!

Re: Better Exploration

FluffyFreak, I was referring to their specific impulse. You have a craft the size of a missle that can traverse a solar system and go into orbit around a planet in a few days. OK, its 3200 but getting them back to your ship seems excessive. That gave me another thought. A probe is basically a very l...

Re: Better Exploration

So the probes are launched from the missle racks, making ships with more missle racks more suited for an exploration mission. I like that, but how expensive are these probes, exactly. Would it be cost-effective for them to be expendable? Would there be an incentive to recover them? That could lead t...

Re: New ship by BobtheTerrible

Thanks nozmajner. Is transparency forbidden? I have an idea for a very simple low-poly cockpit which would be covered with nearly opaque dark glass. It would give the impression that something is in there without straining the computer very much. With little glow map instrument lights it could look ...
